DESIGNING HOME: JEWS IN MID-CENTURY DESIGN looks at the contribution of Jewish designers, architects, patrons, and merchants in a distinctly modern American domestic landscape.

SHIFTING FROM EUROPE TO AMERICA:
After World War II world Jewry shifted from Europe to America. Local and emigre Jewish architects and designers were welcomed into the creative communities all over the US. In this show the curators concentrated on Black Mountain College, the Museum of Modern Art in NY, the Walker Arts Center in MN, and even in the Bay Area at Pond Farm in Guerneville. As always the CJM has assembled a show that goes beyond the furniture and book cover designs you see in front of you. The bigger story is the impact that continues today of the Jews influence on cultural and social themes

NEVER LOOK AT A FORD THE SAME WAY:
The show stopper for me was the wall of corporate logos designed by Jews. Oh the irony of the Ford icon. Every year Henry Ford would send his buddy Hitler a new Ford car. IBM made a fortune designing and selling adding machines for Hitler’s prisoner counting.
