The Tango Diva JetSet Forum: Log On Today!

A funny thing happened on the way to the Tango Diva JetSet Concourse Forums, but if you weren’t logged on, you missed it!

As all of you know, the Forum was the center of public life in ancient Rome. So too, our JetSet Forum is a virtual community we’ve created with you in mind, and we’d love for you to come and participate.

Lots of exciting things happen here. Our founder keeps a journal here - you’re welcome to take a look at her latest thoughts. And I, your enthusiastic editor, am launching my own column, Around the Block, which is a Forums exclusive! You must have read Melissa’s Club Med contest winning piece, but did you know that you could access the other top twenty submissions in the Forums as well?

The Forums can be whatever you make them. They offer exciting opportunities to eavesdrop on international conversations that speak of faraway lands, like Mongolia on the Trans-Siberian Railway. You can listen while our community gives advice to a woman moving to Sweden. Or you can jump in and recommend your favorite spot on the California coast to a soon-to-be road tripping diva looking for suggestions. I told her not to miss Bodega Bay, home to Hitchcock’s thriller, The Birds.

Or, you can have private conversations in the comfort of your own Forum.

Sometimes, people ask general questions whose answers benefit the group, like what are some travel must-haves that you swear by? Perfume? A good book? I found a kindred spirit in Meegan, who never leaves home without a pashmina- a great accessory no matter the weather or dress code!

Our Forums are easy to use. Simply stroll over to our main page and click on the Jet Set Concourse. You will be transported instantly to our modern day Forums, our community center. You can use your own name or choose a playful pseudonym! It’s easy to register, and once you do, you will never be without your weekly E-scapes newsletters highlighting our latest ideas, also written by yours truly!

Like a community quilt, our Forums consist of many threads. Some are hot topics, some are queries for information, and some threads reach the end of their spools and we close them. There is a helpful icon key at the bottom of the page to help you distinguish among our patchwork. A bulging, fiery envelope, for example, shows you that this is a juicy new thread bursting with new postings.

Just like the Forums of old, this is a place for you to make your voice heard and to interact with the community. No longer an archaeological spot in the center of town, our virtual Forum is hostess to divas from around the world all gathering with one goal in mind- world travel, solo style. Your opinions matter; your experiences guide others. And the more you put yourself out there, the more informed we at Tango Diva become- this pulse-taking allows us to further tailor our content to your interests. Let the Forum be a window to the diva soul!

Only your participation can enrich these Forums and take them to the next level.

So make this space yours. Hey, we’re not talking some meager nineties message board- our tools are very sophisticated. Did you know that you can upload your travel stories and accompanying pictures as well, right onto the Forums? So go on, share with your family and friends! The postings are all in real time, too, so the chances for chitchat are truly satisfying. Go online and hang with other divas like blondeshellbarbie who dares to ask the question, what’s the deal with cruises, anyways? Or maile, whose friends and family tell her that traveling alone to Brazil is waaayy too dangerous. So she turns to the Tango Diva Main Forum, of course, to get a REAL opinion from seasoned solo travelers like you. It is here where she finds the support she needs for her dream trip.

At Tango Diva’s JetSet Forums, your only job is to be there. Maybe a funny thing will happen on the way to the Forums. Maybe you’ll make a new friend, or develop an urge to travel to a new place. In the virtual center of our global village, you just never know whom you might meet and where that meeting might take you.

Movies

Bin-Jip
Tae-suk (JAE Hee) drifts around on his motorcycle looking for empty houses and apartments to stay in. He lives in the vacant houses until the owners return, but never steals from nor ruins his unknowing hosts' homes; rather, he is like a kind ghost, sleeping in other people's beds, eating a little food out of the refrigerators and repaying strangers’ unwitting hospitality by doing their laundry or fixing broken items. Before leaving, he puts everything back as it used be. His life changes when he breaks into Sun-hwa's (Seung-yeon Lee), who was once a beautiful model, but she has become withered living under the shadow of her abusive husband, who keeps her imprisoned in their affluent, expensively decorated house. As soon as Tae-suk and Sun-hwa's meet they instantly recognize the similarity of their souls. As if bound by unseen ties, they find themselves unable to separate and quietly accept their bizarre new destiny.

Cidade de Deus
City of God tells the story of two parallel lives from the favela Cidade de Deus (Portuguese for City of God) which is a housing project built in the 1960's that--in the early 80's—turned out to be one of the most dangerous places in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). The movie begins close to the end of story and moves back two decades, and has other flashbacks along the way back to the end. Both Li'l Dice and Rocket grow up surrounded by violence and misery. They take different paths, but nonetheless their lives will cross pathes at many points in the movie.

Mies vailla menneisyyttä
The second part of Aki Kaurismäki's "Finland" trilogy, the movie follows a man (Markku Peltola) who has travelled to Helsinki in search of work and gets mugged so severely he develops amnesia. Unable to remember his name or anything from his past life, he cannot get a job or an apartment, so he starts living on the outskirts of the city and slowly starts putting his life back on track. He discovers love (Kati Outinen) and he is forced to discover values with which man will not be ashamed to live. A small story about people who still know how to be gentle delivers an enormous cinematic experience.
