Our first holiday gift rave for 2008 is Brandini Toffee! We love it – and turns out it’s a real big hit – winning awards left and right. We give it FIRST PLACE for tasty delight to share, ship and show off!
Secret Recipe: Brandini Toffee is handmade with only four ingredients: butter, sugar, dark chocolate, and roasted almonds. If you love almond toffee – you have to try this. Sold in just a few retailers sprinkled thoughout California – it might be best to order online!
Started in 2007 by two high school friends Brandon and Leah to help fund a freshmen trip to Italy (selling candy works girls!) its now a full blown company selling worldwide. We love the inspiration!
Tango Diva member Sharon Eucce brought Brandini to our attention – she nuts about packaging and makes the Brandini packaging look great! A lux packaging expert – we count on Sharon to clue us in on latest on the market!
Located on a peninsula in Great Britain, tiny Wales has long had a flourishing arts scene. The mountainous scenery has inspired and nurtured many artists, informing the designs of the late Welsh designer Laura Ashley and inspiring Portmeirion pottery, named for the fantasy village in North Wales. The capital city of Cardiff is home to the largest media centre in the U.K. outside of London.
Taking its recent £4.4 million transformation as well as its 25 year history into account, the Ruthin Centre is well on its way to solidifying itself as a key influence on Europe’s contemporary arts scene. Located in Denbighshire, North Wales, about one hour from the English cities of Manchester and Liverpool, in the Vale of Clwyd (pronounced Cloo-id), the new craft center is home to three galleries, six artist studios, a retail gallery and a café. Two of these galleries will display the best national and international crafts, and remaining one will be used to display collections.
In addition to exhibits, the Centre also offers workshops and residential courses. Artists can spend quality time honing their skills in a land known for its Celtic roots, its Princes(s) and Catherine Zeta Jones. Contact the Centre at +44 (0) 1824 704774 for more information about signing up for a workshop or residential course.
For more information on the Ruthin Craft Centre, visit the website: www.ruthincraftcentre.org.uk. Daily hours are 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and admission is free.
Following weeks of rich holiday food, wine, stressful shopping crowds and late nights of socializing, a week-long retreat package that “offers close to 10 hrs of relaxing and invigorating spa treatments based on the indigenous and therapeutic techniques of the surrounding Mayan culture” sounds pretty good to me. And by taking one look at photos of Esencia Estate, one realizes that the remaining 150 hours of the week won’t be too shabby either.
The special retreat package is available through December 31, 2009 and includes treatments such as an Indigenous Mani-Pedi, a Sea and Sky Ritual massage on the beach, a vitality-increasing Lemon Ritual, a Mayan Wrap to relieve muscle tension, a Royal Ritual to remove impurities, a stretching and strengthening Baxal Ritual, a renewing Cacao Ritual and finally the Temazcal, a traditional steam bath presided over by a shaman to inspire health, harmony and renewal. The package starts at $1,410 per person, and guest rooms range from $605 per night for standard accommodations to $1,729 per night for a two story, fully-staffed cottage. Taxes and service charge are additional.
Once the exclusive retreat of the Italian Duchess d’Ferrari, Esencia Estate is located in Playa del Carmen, Riviera Maya, Mexico, which is 46 miles south of Cancún. The 50-acre private estate has 29 suites and cottages, and lots of extra features such as a fully organic spa, private gardens, solariums and deep-soaking plunge pools. Complimentary group yoga and meditation classes are offered as well.

Pia, a sea lion patient at the Marine Mammal Care Center
Go on vacation while simultaneously helping to speak for those who cannot speak for themselves. The Portofino Hotel & Yacht Club now includes an exclusive tour of the Marine Mammal Care Center (MMCC) at Fort MacArthur in its “Save the Sea Lions” Package.
Guests can witness first-hand how the Center benefits Southern California wildlife, while helping to increase public awareness of the marine environment, through outreach activities, education and research.
By purchasing the “Save the Sea Lions” Package, you’ll save money as well as give something back to the local wildlife. I’d call this payback for all those moments that sea lions and other marine creatures have provided endless entertainment for beachgoers and tourists. Advanced reservations for the package are required and tours must be scheduled in advance. The package is based on availability and includes:
Accommodations with scenic views of the ocean AND the sea lions
A signature Portofino sea lion
Complimentary 2-hour paddle boat that seats up to four people, allowing guests to paddle by sunning or frolicking sea lions
A disposable camera to catch all of the excitement on film!
